As Organizations downsize their staff, they look for strategic fill ups. This has created an increasing need for resources with highly specific skills. This leads to a new search criteria-Knowledge based workforce. Prospective employee has to be highly skilled in a particular field and be independent in carrying that role thus reducing the need for bigger team size.
2) Capability based roles:
Organizations are redefining roles to optimize the workforce through the shift to broad based skilled resources from role based resources to address broader strategic shifts in need for new resources. The question they ask is not what he can do in this job but what he is capable of doing in similar but broader spectrum of related jobs so as to optimize his input and thus impacting the cost parameters- which leads to a new shift i.e. term of employment.

More and more companies prefer to seek contractual workforce rather than long term or permanent workforce to retain its agility and efficiency in the shifting sands of fluid economy.
